Fun in the Sun with Family Building Blocks

Posted on July 3, 2013. Filed under: Uncategorized |

On Saturday, August 3rd Family Building Blocks will host the 4th Annual Riverfront Family Fest.  The highly anticipated event is open to the public 10:00-2:00 in Salem’s Riverfront Park.  Fun activities for all ages are available.  Valuable lessons in water safety, health and hygiene, healthy eating, sports safety, fire safety and bus safety are also available for kids and parents alike.  The event is an opportunity for Family Building Blocks to support the community in a free, fun way where families and young children learn more about safety and health with hands-on activities.

Founded in 1997, Family Building Blocks is a private, nonprofit organization that works to break the intergenerational cycle of child abuse and neglect by providing services for high-risk families with young children.  It focuses on building successful and resilient children, strengthening parents and preserving families through comprehensive early childhood and family support services.

FBB provides a variety of services at their three facilities and in the homes of the families they serve.  These services include therapeutic classrooms, respite care, home visits and referrals to other social services in the area.  In 2012, 99% of the children who were involved in FBB’s core programs were able to live safely with their parents, thus avoiding abuse, neglect, and foster care.

Volunteers are needed in a variety of capacities before and during Riverfront Family Fest.  Go to HandsOnW.org to sign up for a shift.
