Today is Giving Tuesday! Please Support HandsOn and Superhero Volunteers Across the Land!

Posted on November 27, 2012. Filed under: Uncategorized |

In the midst of the chaos of the Holiday Shopping Season there is Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday and now Giving Tuesday.   What is Giving Tuesday you ask?  Giving Tuesday™ is a campaign to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations.  People invest so much into the holidays through gifts, decorations and feasts.  Why not make your dollar go a little farther by supporting great local non-profits that support the community year round?

Want to make your dollar stretch even farther?  Consider supporting HandsOn Willamette.  Our reach has extended even farther in 2012 to include Benton and Linn Counties.  We serve over 400 organizations with volunteer recruitment and management support and mobilize a network of over 4000 volunteers.  We also manage the volunteers at 2 Community Homeless Connect events each year and during emergencies like the floods in 2011.  Talk about getting the biggest bang for the buck!

Please include HandsOn in your Giving Tuesday plans.  Help us continue to support the amazing volunteer work throughout the community for years to come.  Consider a gift of $100, but remember every little bit makes a difference.  Thank you for your support.

Hey Young People! Be a Joy Maker this Holiday Season

Posted on November 26, 2012. Filed under: Volunteering is Hot! |

Volunteers of all ages can be Joy Makers this holiday season! For the third year in a row, Points of Light’s youth action network, generationOn, in partnership with Hasbro, is asking kids and teens to give back to their community by pledging to commit an act of service. For every act of service, Hasbro will donate a toy to a child in need – up to 100,000 toys!

Simply volunteer with your favorite organization and tell generationOn what you did at  Then Hasbro will donate a toy to a child in need this holiday season.  Every act of service small and large will make a difference to a child so bring your friends, family, youth group and make it a memorable holiday season of service.

All The Leaves Are Brown…

Posted on November 19, 2012. Filed under: Volunteering is Hot! | Tags: , , , , , , |

I’m sure everyone enjoyed the stunning colors the valley’s beautiful trees bestowed upon us this fall season.  The reds, yellows, oranges, purples and pinks that lit up the hillsides have made their slow transition to brown and their final fall to your garden, sidewalks, roofs, decks, and everywhere in between.  Watching the nature’s transition has been fun, but every party needs a clean-up crew and we’ve got a fun and exciting way to do it! Winter Wishes Brings Holiday Cheer in Many Ways

Posted on November 18, 2012. Filed under: Volunteering is Hot! |

For many the holidays means coming together with family and friends around a meal.  So it seems only natural to want to volunteer to serve a meal to those who need it during the holiday season.  Many volunteers seeking these opportunities will come up disappointed.  These volunteer opportunities are not only extremely popular but there just aren’t very many volunteer slots.  Often holiday meal sites fill their volunteer slots weeks or even months in advance.  However, never fear!  There are still plenty of ways to help out during the holidays.  (more…)

OSU Non Profit and Volunteer Fair

Posted on November 1, 2012. Filed under: Good Ideas Stick, Tips for HandsOn Partners | Tags: |

The following is from Bre Smith, Internal Coordinator & Student Organization Liaison at Oregon State University

Dear Nonprofit, Public Service, or Government Professional:

We are enthusiastic to invite you to participate in Oregon State University’s  7th annual Nonprofit & Volunteer Fair! Students interested in nonprofit and public service work would like to meet you to learn more about service and internship opportunities and career paths in your field.

The Nonprofit & Volunteer Fair is a collaborative program organized by Career Services and the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE), an office that connects OSU students to meaningful service opportunities in our community. Together, we are working to create an event which will include nonprofit and service-related workshops and breakout sessions for students to attend in addition to the main Fair. While most of OSU’s 25,000 students study in Corvallis, many seek internship, job, and volunteer opportunities throughout Oregon.  Last year, nearly 60 nonprofits from around the state showcased their opportunities to hundreds of students. We are looking to expand the opportunities presented to both our students and our nonprofit partners through this great networking event.

The Nonprofit & Volunteer Fair will allow you to promote your organization’s programs, needs, and openings to OSU’s energetic and talented students. This event is intended to educate OSU students about the nonprofit and public service fields, including career and volunteer opportunities available, while also addressing the benefits of interning and/or volunteering with a nonprofit or public service organization.
