Summertime Service Opportunities Across the Land!

Posted on May 31, 2012. Filed under: Uncategorized |

The summer is a wonderful time to volunteer!  There are lots of great events benefiting awesome organizations.  The sun is out and the winter gloom is far away.  However, volunteering trends in the summer often go down.  Let’s change that this year!  There are so many amazing opportunities available; it will be difficult to stay away!

A.C. Gilbert’s Discovery Village has a wide variety of great opportunities available.  Spend your summer with the smiling faces of youth as a camp counselor.  Volunteers need to be at least 15.  Camp runs July 9-August 17.  Looking for something with a little less commitment?  Make newspaper hats and lead youth at the communal art walk at their booth at the Salem Art Fair July 20-22.

Do you have a green thumb?  Help out in the local community garden.  Many are looking for those willing to help maintain the summer crops and water daily.

Do you like movies?  How about parks?  Why not put the two together?  Help the City of Salem and area neighborhood associations host Movies in the Park.  Volunteers are needed to hand out information and perform other tasks before the movies.

Summer is also the season for 5K run/walk fundraisers.  Help great local non-profits make a little extra money by participating or volunteering in their summer fundraisers.  HandsOn’s own Superhero Dash is June 9th.  Liberty House will host its annual Fun Run on July 28th and Mid Valley Mentors has a run on September 22nd.  None of these events can happen without volunteers!

There are so many wonderful ways to give back this summer.  Combine your own interests with a good cause and everyone wins!
