4th Annual Community Homeless Connect. Volunteers Needed!

Posted on March 12, 2012. Filed under: Volunteering is Hot! |

March 27th marks the 4th year of Community Homeless Connect.  Community Homeless Connect is a one-day affair that brings together a variety of resources within one location in an effort to aid families and individuals in Marion and Polk Counties who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless. Service providers from the medical field, social services, and veteran affairs—as well as community-minded volunteers—come together to offer services and referrals.

Not only does this event provide much-needed, tangible resources; attendees are treated with respect and dignity, while being offered help, support and hope as guests, not clients. Services include medical, dental, mental health, housing resources, bike repair, legal aid, employment assistance, women’s services, veterinarian/pet services, and more.

This year’s event is back to its original location.  We will be at Salem First Baptist Church at 395 Marion St NE in Salem.  The event is March 27th 9:00-3:00.

Community Homeless Connect would never happen without the generous support of volunteers.  Over 150 volunteers are needed for the event for everything from set up on March 26th and clean up right after the event, to greeting and checking in guests and serving meals.  Volunteers 16 and older are welcome to sign up.  Volunteers 12 and older need to have an adult with them to serve.  Volunteer shifts are 8:30-12:00 and 12:00-3:00.  Volunteer for one shift or all day.  Sign up as a team with your family or friends!  (more…)

Service to Go! is HandsOn’s most flexible program.  It makes service easy for even the tightest of schedules.  Simply sign up for a project, and HandsOn will send you instructions and a list of needed supplies.  Then you are all set to complete a meaningful project that serves local organizations. So what’s the best part?  You can complete a Service to Go! project anywhere, anytime with anyone and as many times as you like!  Just send the finished project and evaluation form back to HandsOn when you are finished.
